During startup, the Proof of Fire switch senses exhaust temperature. When the housing reaches 140°F, the switch closes, allowing the auger motor to feed pellets and the stove to enter normal operation. When the stove cools to 120°F, the switch re‑opens, signaling the control board to stop feeding pellets and shut down the combustion fan.
